The non-profit organisation “Paros Ancient Marble Quarries Park AMKE”.
Our organisation was created in 2022 by six Parian associations to protect and promote the unique history and cultural heritage of the underground and surface quarries of Paros.
We work closely with the Greek Ministry of Culture, the Municipality of Paros and the Paros Regional Unit (part of the region of South Aegean) and are striving to create an archaeological-cultural park that will offer, to both actual and virtual visitors, great opportunities to learn and appreciate the history, quarrying methods and famous artworks of Parian marble.
Our long-term vision is for the park to be recognised as a World Heritage site. The ultra-white, smooth and translucent Parian marble (lychnitis) is known worldwide for its unique qualities. The ancient quarries have given birth to masterpieces such as the Venus de Milo, Hermes of Praxiteles and Augustus of Prima Porta.
Our website was launched in June 2022 and is still being developed to offer full support to visitors. To help us in our efforts, you may want to DONATE.
