Within the designated archaeological area of the ancient quarries in Marathi, at a location known as Lakkoi, a large number of opencast quarries survive, carved into the hillsides and with heaps of rubble from the quarrying products thrown beyond their entrance. The presence of Classical partly worked pieces in the heaps indicates that the quarries in Lakkoi were also in use during the Classical period. A stele with the inscription horos poleos (marker of the city border), from the second half of the 4th Century BC, also comes from this location, perhaps indicating the public ownership of the area of the quarries.
