Geotechnical studies in the ancient quarries in Marathi

A research project, using digital technologies, has started in ancient quarries with the aim of a detailed assessment and analysis of the vulnerability of underground galleries to geotechnical failures. The study of the first phase has been assigned by the Ministry of Culture to a team of the National Technical University of Athens led by Prof. Vassilis Marinos and is being implemented with the support of AMKE. The scope of the study includes the 3D digital mapping of the Nymphs’ and Pan’s galleries, as well as their geological mapping. The work on the galleries of the Nymphs is an update of earlier research but it is the first time that the gallery of Pan has been documented. AMKE is planning a presentation by Prof. Marinos in Paros when the first phase is completed.
