The Ancient Quarries in Marathi have been neglected for many years, but steps have finally been taken to improve the visitor experience and promote this unique monument.

The nonprofit organisation “Paros Ancient Marble Quarries Park” has installed a series of information panels, orientation maps, and route markings. The new panels provide a wealth of information in Greek and English, with QR codes that take visitors to the Ancient Quarries website (www.parianmarble.com) for more details on Parian marble’s history and cultural heritage.

The Cyclades Ephorate of Antiquities guided the project and determined the locations and texts of the signs, which have been designed pro bono by a working group consisting of Merina Mathaiopoulou, members of the Cyclades Ephorate of Antiquities, the Municipality of Paros, and our nonprofit organisation.

The signs have been constructed and placed on the site with the contribution of local entrepreneurs, residents, and friends of the island, either in kind or in time and labour. We want to express our gratitude to all those who have contributed to the realisation of this project, including the local businesses Skandalis SA, Angelos Agouros, Manolis Daveronas for donating materials, and Paraskevas Louki for his work. We also extend our thanks to the hotels Poseidon of Paros, Saint Andrea, Kalypso, Liprando, Zefi, the association Friends of Paros & Antiparos, the Association of Hoteliers of Paros-Antiparos, and dozens of residents and friends of the island for their financial support.
